July War: The Legend of the Resistance Fighter

Photo Blog by Haitham Moussawi

Israel’s declared goal for the 2006 war on Lebanon was the eradication of Hezbollah’s resistance. But to the astonishment of many, the resistance not only stood its ground for 33 days under relentless bombardment, but also retaliated. They successfully blocked a number of invasions, putting an end to the myth of the Merkava tank’s indestructibility, and even taking the fight across to the other side of the border.

Al-Akhbar was granted exclusive access to photograph Hezbollah fighters during a training exercise in South Lebanon in 2010. These are the fighters that broke the spirit of the IDF, proving again that the Israeli army is not “invincible.”
