Havana, Cuba, Aug 14 - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Monday telephoned the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to congratulate him on his 86th birthday, celebrated around the world on August 13th.
“I just got off the phone with Fidel. I wanted to congratulate him on his birthday and he asked me to convey his greetings to the people of Venezuela!” Chavez tweeted on Monday.
A few hours earlier, Chavez’ United Socialist Party and the Communist Party of that South American nation also congratulated the leader of the Cuban Revolution.
Also, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich congratulated Fidel Castro and wished him success in his scientific and literary activities, while in Minsk the Belarusian Head of State Alexander Lukashenko also conveyed his best wishes to the Cuban leader.
Meanwhile, Cuban residents and sympathizers in Mexico held a birthday celebration honoring the octogenarian revolutionary.
Similar activities were held in Colombia and El Salvador, where the country’s vice president attended a festive homage to the renowned statesman.
