Zoom Brooklyn, NY: Bratton pushes NYPD agenda at MLK Day event featuring Angela Davis
I guess I am naive. I thought a Martin Luther King Day event at Brooklyn Academy of Music, billed as Angela Davis speaking and a film showing on political prisoners, was a safe place to take my Black daughters to learn some of their history.Instead, we walked into an Obama-de Blasio political rally with top racist Killer Cop William Bratton invited to push his Stop-and-Frisk facelift on stage. What a disgusting and shameful display. When we left the hall in protest of Bratton, we were followed by the white armed cops who surrounded this event attended overwhelmingly by African American people.I am so angry I am shaking. I would have tried to seize the stage if the kids hadn’t been there. I hope someone else raised their voice after we left.Despite her contradictions, I sincerely hope Angela Davis was unaware of what she was walking into. She was very crucial to my political development and I was looking forward to my daughters hearing her. I will certainly be contacting her about this.
